For every wonderful night stay at Woodbury Tented Camp, two game drives are included in the price. The day you arrive you will be whisked away on your first safari drive, as the sun begins to set guests are able to enjoy a sundowner with drinks and snacks such as a South African favourite, biltong. Your next drive will be the following early morning, where you can enjoy a much needed cup of coffee with home made biscuits.
Amakhala Game Reserve preserves a complex and diverse ecosystem, providing habitat for over 60 mammal species including the 'Big 5' with lion and elephant being among them. Cheetah is also one of Amakhala's key conservation species with only 7,500 left in the wild, these along with Giraffe form the 'magnificent 7', which they are truly magnificent!
As the day draws to an end under a setting sun, the nocturnal species begin their foraging, from the aardvark to the endangered brown hyena. The rangers spot-light scanning might highlight these lesser seen, yet very interesting mammals as you make your way back to the lodge.
The Bushman’s River that winds its way through the reserve, offers a tranquil boat cruise and is known for its spectacular bird life sightings. Bird life at Amakhala is prolific and 239 species have been recorded. Spectacular and interesting species abound which will enthrall even the casual naturalist. For the serious “birder”, specials include knysna turacos's, secretary birds, denham’s bustard, as well as an array of barbets, woodpeckers and sun birds.
The reserve is also home to substantial herds of plains game species including zebra, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, oryx and eland to name but a few.
In the evening, the fireside beckons you to share tales of your day’s adventure and enjoy local cuisine prepared by our chef under a magnificent African canopy of stars.
